A neurological exam assesses motor and sensory skills, in addition to the functioning of one or more cranial nerves.  Diagnostic tests and procedures are vital tools that help physicians confirm or rule out the presence of neurological disorder.  Computer Axial Tomography, also known as CT scan, uses computers to generate a 3-Dimensional image from flat 2-Dimensional X-Ray pictures.  The patient lies on a table and is centered into the CT machine that can be closed or opened on both ends.  Many neurological disorders share certain characteristics and a CT scan can aide in proper diagnosis by differentiating the area of the brain affected by the disorder.  Scanning takes about 10 minutes.  A CT of the brain or head may take slightly longer on an outpatient basis.  Please contact your local imaging center for a pre-screen test.
